Integrate Google Bookmarks with Search

Categories Google

It seems that Google has expanded the Search History feature to include Bookmarks. I wish I knew exactly when this happened, but typical Google they rolled this out totally silently. Currently the way you add items to your Bookmarks is by "starring" items in your Search History. Then after you star a URL you can "label" it just like in GMail. Bookmarks can also be added from Google's Personalized Homepage, but if you do it this way you don't have the option of labeling it. However, you can't add a new bookmark directly from Google search results, which really seems like the most obvious way to add bookmarks, or just importing them from your web browser or from...

Ok, let me preface this by saying I'm new to del.icio.us, but I love it. And it seems that with the way these enhancements to Google Search History/Personalized HomePage are going Google will be squaring off with del.icio.us. As much as I love del.icio.us, Google storing data about which sites people bookmark will help Google return better search results, which is obviously a big plus for web searchers everywhere. And while del.icio.us is incredibly cool, if Google expands on their labeling tool enough to rival or even exceed del.icio.us, I have to say I really won't miss having another site to login to when I already am such a heavy Google user and it's already storing my search history. Sadness, looks like Google Bookmarks could spell trouble for del.icio.us, especially if they offer a way to import del.icio.us bookmarks.
